Mineral water graduation tower “Druskupis”

In Birštonas, stands the unique “Druskupis” mineral water evaporation building, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience the invigorating “sea effect” air. Positioned in the heart of the city’s central park, this tower-pavilion boasts distinctive architecture, complete with a mineral water fountain and salt gallery. Here, residents and visitors alike can partake in open-air inhalations, harnessing the therapeutic benefits of light therapy to fortify their health and invigorate their bodies.
Fed by the mineral-rich waters of the “Rūta” spring, the “Druskupis” evaporation tower employs nature’s elements—wind and sun—to naturally evaporate the water, creating an atmosphere saturated with beneficial minerals. Within a radius of 50-80 meters surrounding the tower, guests can breathe in the revitalizing “sea effect” air, reminiscent of a seaside stroll.
This revitalizing air isn’t just a novelty; it serves as a cornerstone for holistic rehabilitation and health enhancement at Birštonas medical SPAs. The inhalation of salt-saturated air proves particularly beneficial for individuals with respiratory ailments, while also bestowing upon the skin a smoother, more supple texture. Moreover, the meditative ambiance, coupled with the soothing sounds of bubbling water, fosters a sense of calm and aids in alleviating nervous tension.
Step into the “Druskupis” mineral water evaporation building, and embark on a journey of rejuvenation and wellness amidst the serene landscapes of Birštonas.
Birštonas Quay

After strolling through the charming streets of Birštonas and logging over 5000 steps (by the way, my daily target is 8000 steps, what’s yours?), we decided to indulge in a picturesque riverside snack along the warm banks of the Nemunas. There’s something magical about sitting by the river with your family, soaking in the magnificent scenery, basking in the sun, and cherishing the time spent together on our journey.
By the way, you can conveniently purchase snacks and essentials at the nearby IKI store, but we always come prepared with our own picnic provisions

Along the banks of the Nemunas River, towering cliffs rise 30-70 meters high, a remarkable sight rarely found in Lithuania. These breathtaking vistas captivate travelers, leaving an indelible impression of the landscape’s grandeur. Yet, a lingering question remained: how does one experience this awe-inspiring panorama without taking flight, grounded between two mighty rivers?
Enter the Birštonas Observation Tower—the tallest of its kind in Lithuania—offering a bird’s-eye view of the spectacular surroundings. The tower’s conception dates back to 1997 when the Lithuanian Government endorsed the planning scheme for the Nemunas Loops Regional Park, envisioning measures for conservation, management, and sustainable utilization of this precious terrain.
Even then, the dream of constructing an observation tower blossomed—a beacon inviting visitors to marvel at the area’s natural splendor. Positioned atop the Škėvonys ridge, standing proudly at 92 meters above sea level, the site offers an unparalleled panorama. The Nemunas River flows just 240 meters away, flanked by open spaces to the southeast and nearby forests, framing a breathtaking view of Birštonas and the Nemunas Valley.
Ascending to a height of 45 meters, with a total elevation of 55 meters, the tower presents a formidable ascent. To ease the journey, six rest stops will be strategically placed along the way. Adjacent to the tower, a recreational area and information stand will provide a panoramic overview of the Nemunas Loops Regional Park.
Clad in larch panels adorned with triangular cells, the tower’s facade evokes the imagery of wayside shrines or celestial constellations. Its rectangular design and laced roof pay homage to Lithuania’s rich architectural heritage, reminiscent of ancient wooden castle towers and the iconic belfries that punctuate the landscape.
Drawing inspiration from roadside chapels and the symbolic World Tree, the tower’s aesthetic symbolism is further accentuated by intricate openings—small windows that allow natural light to filter through, akin to the delicate carvings of wooden sculptures.
As the Birštonas Observation Tower takes shape, it stands as a testament to human ingenuity and reverence for the natural world—a beacon beckoning all to witness the beauty that lies beyond.
The day flew by unnoticed, leaving us with a plethora of memories. We returned home tired but content, our hearts brimming with satisfaction. In Birštonas, there are countless more intriguing places awaiting exploration, but we’ll save those for another adventure.
