Have you ever opened your fridge, stared into the void, and thought:
“I’ve got milk… eggs… maybe some flour… now what?”
I have. More times than I’d like to admit.
That quiet moment of culinary despair was exactly what inspired me to build a small side project — something quick, useful, and actually fun to create.
So I made Fridge Chef — a lightweight, zero-signup web app that takes the ingredients you already have and suggests recipes you can cook right now. No filters, no tracking, no endless “create an account to continue” pop-ups.
Just food ideas. Fast.
🍳 What Is Fridge Chef?
Fridge Chef is a simple web tool where:
- You type in the ingredients you have (in any language)
- Or even upload a photo of your fridge
- Click a button
- And boom — it suggests meals you can make right away
Got milk, eggs, and flour? Pancakes.
Only sugar, butter, and salt? You’d be surprised.
The app is minimal by design. It loads fast, works on mobile, and doesn’t ask for your email address or location. It’s not another app trying to be “the future of food tech.” It’s just trying to help you cook with what you’ve got.
🔨 Why I Built It
A few reasons:
- Scratch my own itch: I’m often juggling time, and cooking from leftovers is my secret weapon. But I needed a quick assistant to answer “what now?” without scrolling Pinterest.
- I love building tools that feel useful immediately: There’s something satisfying about solving a small problem well.
- I wanted something low-pressure: No roadmap. No investors. Just something I could launch in a week and improve over time.
🌱 What’s Next?
For now, Fridge Chef is totally free and open to feedback.
I’m considering:
- Adding meal plans
- Supporting calorie and dietary filters (vegan, keto, etc.)
- Recipe-saving and exporting
- Community-sourced dishes (“Got something better with milk + onion?”)
And maybe even integrating with online grocery delivery — but only if it still feels light and useful.
☕ Want to Support?
If you find Fridge Chef helpful and want to support my caffeine habit, I added a little Buy Me a Coffee link on the site. Totally optional, but very appreciated. 🙂
